"Butterfly Effect: Ruth Bader Ginsburg"
"Butterfly Effect: Ruth Bader Ginsburg"
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (March 15, 1933 – September 18, 2020) has died, turned into butterflies.
In chaos theory, "the butterfly effect" holds that the flapping of the wings of a distant butterfly can change the outcome of a hurricane. If a butterfly can affect a hurricane, then imagine how great of an effect a Ruth Bader Ginsburg can have on the world, or that you or I can.
I made this portrait based on my custom 3D modeling and the butterfly collections of institutions like the Yale Peabody Museum's Entomology Division and the Arizona State University Hasbrouck Insect Collection. I have personally harmed no butterflies in creating this portrait.
The colors of the butterflies I chose were in part based on the position of the Earth relative to the sun on the date Ginsburg arrived on Earth and the date she left.
